Woodham Bros. Scrapyard, Barry - July 1, 1986

Page I

In 1986 a work assignment resulted in me being based in Cwmbran, Gwent for a six-month period. During this time I was able

to make two visits to Dai Woodham's legendary steam locomotive "graveyard" in Barry, Wales.  If this particular scrap yard

can ever be described as having glory days, by the time I got there in July 1986 they were happily long gone.

Many, many locomotives (somewhere in the region of 180+) had departed the yard by this time. The remaining ones were

in a pretty woeful condition but that did not diminish the emotional impact of this wonderful place one bit.  On the following

pages are scans of some of the 35mm slides I took during my visits.

My first visit was on the lovely warm, sunny evening of Tuesday, July 1.  I returned again on Sunday, 13 July.

Once again the weather could not have been better.
